| In 1690, Richard Joyce, who had been sold into slavery in Tunis, was liberated. He returned to his native Claddagh, a fishing village in Co. Galway and began to utilise the skills he had mastered during his years of slavery. This gifted silversmith fashioned the first Claddagh ring - basing his design on Celtic legends of the old Connaught Kings. Today, the talented designers of the Claddagh Icon Collection have taken a fresh look at the traditional designs of old, bringing them to life for the modern era. |
